Well. Does it feel like we went to sleep and it was summer in Lake Chelan and woke up to winter in Lake Chelan, or am I the only one who’s wondering where fall in the Pacific Northwest ran off to? No? Ok. Cool. I didn’t think so!
All sadness aside for the rapid arrival of low temps and snow just above our house, I am thrilled to share the second part of this project with a wonderful family owned business and farm.
After spending the morning with Seth and his mother Barbara, I returned to the Chelan Valley Botanicals permaculture farm for another round of photos with Seth’s family as the sun dipped behind the iconic Slide Ridge.
Having already devoted time to connecting with Seth, Katie, Elise, and Isaac made the photo experience feel so much more relaxed and honest.
The kids played and giggled to their hearts content. Sweet Elise accidentally nailed her forehead on the swing set not more than ten minutes into the session and she was a trooper about the whole mishap. Even though from the sounds of it, we all knew there would be a good size bump come morning.
I always tell my clients with children, “At some point we will start to lose the kids, and that’s okay! Let them run and play. Let them be little. It’s part of photographing a family!”
What I love most is these photos tell a story about a family during an exciting time in life. Seth and Katie have taken over his mothers business baby, and made it their own.
Chelan Valley Botanicals shared this on their Facebook page and I think it fits perfectly here.
“Some of you may have already heard that we are transitioning some of your favorite J. Gecko products made by the amazing Barbara Korando to Chelan Valley Botanicals. Chelan Valley Botanicals is a collaboration between Barbara and her son, Seth Christian. One of the many benefits of this collaboration is increasing the number of herbs grown locally using permaculture principles to create the same high quality products you’ve known and loved from J. Gecko. Barbara is a wealth of knowledge and we couldn’t do this without her many years of experience as an herbalist. As you may imagine there is a lot of planning and learning that goes into this transition. As we move forward we will keep you informed of our progress. Thanks so much for your support!”
We wrapped up the session standing in front of their beautiful, custom built, pole building home where Seth and Katie raise their family and handcraft organic, high quality, skin care and aromatherapy products. Chelan Valley Botanicals can be found at Spirals in downtown Chelan and local markets in the area.
From Seth + Katie:
“Megan came highly recommended from friends and she totally blew us away with her attention to detail and the loving care she brought to the whole process. We were happy to welcome her to our farm to capture our family and the beginning of our business and I particularly appreciated the time and effort she spent getting to know us and the story to be told before the camera ever came out. For the awkward among us, it is these touches that helps put one at ease and make for awesome photos. I loved working with Megan and would recommend her to anyone looking for that extra time and care. I'm excited to to catch up with her in the future to add more chapters to our saga!”
